Hiaqui (Yaqui)
Hia, which also means voice and scream or to scream, and Baqui, which is a river, connoting The river that talk loudly.
They called themselves yoreme, ie people, as opposed to the non-Yaqui or yori (ie fierce, originally, was meant only lions).
* Yoreme: ioremraua, humanity ioremte, engender; ioremtua acquire sanity.
* Yori: Aioiore, abide, have respect, ioretiutuame, reproach iorevebia, whip, whip, ioresuame, killer of people.
As is the connotation of yori white conqueror, Creole refers to what is external or different. Even the very aioiore, abide, have respect, refers to a imposed compliance, demanded and tyrannical.
The oral tradition speaks of the existence of Surem as their ancestors, describing them as wise people with a long beard, eating roots and wild fruits and lived many years.
“One day some parents knew they were coming for baptism, some did not want to be baptized, so they went to hide in the forest (or to the mountains), under the earth and so they became animals, say the governor is leading the ant, the others are birds, rabbits, etc..
Those who were baptized were left on earth, that’s us, we are the Yaquis. Los Sures still visit us when it’s time … “
